Lake Travis Middle School art teacher Lisa Weidenbach is the recipient of a Teacher Recognition Award as part of the From the Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Student Contest.
The Ocean Awareness Student Contest was launched by Linda Cabot in 2011 as a companion to her film, From the Bow Seat, an environmental documentary she filmed while sailing the Gulf of Maine with her family. The contest seeks to inspire ocean stewardship among middle and high school students from around the world through creative competition in four categories: art, poetry, prose and film. First, second and third place cash prizes—including Honorable Mention awards and Teacher Recognition awards—are provided in each category.
The theme for the 2015 contest, ‘Our Oceans, Our Plastic’ allowed students to explore and interpret the connections among the ocean, plastic pollution and society.
