Board approves purchase of 11 school buses

The Lake Travis school board recently approved the purchase of 11 school buses that will accommodate a continued increase in student ridership.

Currently, LTISD has 69 buses available in its fleet.  From this inventory, 63 buses are designated for routes, leaving only six buses to cover field trips and maintenance needs.  Approximately 20 routes have been added in the past five years.

The cost of the new buses is approximately $1.1 million which voters approved as part of the 2012 bond program.  The new buses will be ‘seat-belt ready,’ meaning contingent upon funding, seat belts may be purchased and installed at a later date.

LTISD bus drivers transport approximately 3,600 students each day covering more than 6,000 miles.
