District hosts Lakeway Veterans Day ceremony

Local veterans and their families filled the Lake Travis High School Performing Arts Center November 11 for the annual City of Lakeway Veterans Day ceremony.

Fred Burton, an expert on global intelligence and New York Times best-selling author, provided the keynote address, highlighting the role veterans have played in defending our country’s freedom.

The Lake Travis High School band and choir performed patriotic music and military anthems, and students presented certificates of recognition to 17 veterans whose names have been engraved on the City of Lakeway Spirit of Freedom Monument.

The event was coordinated by the Lake Travis Standing Military Committee in cooperation with the City of Lakeway, the Lakeway Police Department, the Lohmann’s Ford Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Lakeway Heritage Commission.

“We applaud the Lake Travis Standing Military Committee for their efforts to involve our students and school community in this unique event,” LTISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brad Lancaster said. “It was a wonderful event which provided our students with incredible learning opportunities.”
