Literacy Partners program expands, mentors wanted

Beginning in 2010, Hill Country Bible Church Austin and the Leander school district piloted a program providing 23 literacy partners to serve students at one school for 30 minutes a week.  Better known as ‘The Education Connection,’ the goal of the program was to address literacy, and ultimately, drop out rates.

Currently there are more than 500 literacy partners serving six school districts across Central Texas, including Lake Travis ISD.  In 2014, the program was implemented at Lakeway Elementary School with much success.  Student test results have consistently shown improvement in reading levels and confidence.

This fall, Education Connection has expanded to all six Lake Travis ISD elementary schools.

Presently, more than 100 mentors are in place actively serving students.
