The Lake Travis High School Girls Golf team captured its second consecutive 6A championship at the University Interscholastic League state golf tournament held April 25-26 at Legacy Hills Golf Course in Georgetown.
The team—consisting of freshman Sara Camarena, juniors Morgan Lay and Kaitlyn Papp, and seniors Lauren Comegys and Kristen Gillman—finished with a total score of 580, 27 strokes ahead of second place Westlake High School.
Gillman—a University of Alabama signee and winner of the 2014 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship—also earned a gold medal for individual play at the tournament (68-73, 141). Other collegiate commitments include Comegys, James Madison University; Lay, Texas A&M University; and Papp, The University of Texas.
Last month, the Lady Cavs defeated Westlake by three strokes at the district tournament, and most recently, beat the Lady Chaps by six strokes at the regional tournament.
Lake Travis Girls Golf has earned state championships in three of the last four years, winning titles in Class 5A (2012-2013) and Class 6A (2014-2015, 2015-2016).
