Lake Travis High School students received three distinguished Gold seals, 19 Exemplary medallions and 10 Superior ratings at the state Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) held April 23 at Madison High School in San Antonio. The Gold Seal is the top award presented to exemplary works of art chosen by the event’s jury panel.
Sponsored by the Texas Art Education Association, VASE is one of the largest curricular competitions in the nation for high school art students that gives them the opportunity to develop creative works of art and to discuss and analyze their artwork with professionals. At the state VASE event, jurors look for originality of concept, technical expertise, understanding of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and the interpretation of the student’s stated intent for each project.
“This year, nearly 27,000 entries were received statewide, of which approximately 2,000 qualified for state (competition),” LTHS art instructor Diane Wrinkle explained. “These amazing students are to be commended for their incredible talent. I would also like to thank my fellow colleagues in the LTHS Art department—teachers Cha Asokan, Amber Forgey and Kristen Kyger—for their dedication and support of our students and the visual arts.”
