Elementary Schools Host Annual Science Fairs

Fifth-grade students across each Lake Travis ISD elementary campus displayed their knowledge of Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison and numerous other scientists during school science fairs held throughout January and February.

According to science fair organizers, students executed all phases of experimentation including the development of a hypothesis, planning, research, experimenting, analyzing data, and concluding their findings.

"Participating in school science fairs introduces students to opportunities for scientific inquiry," said Kelly Bender, fifth-grade teacher at Bee Cave Elementary School.  "This experience not only gives them hands-on experience in science, it also helps prepare them to analyze issues and answer questions they have about the world."

Volunteer judges critiqued each entry and rated the projects based on presentation, documentation, and 'Q&A' with the student.  Judges included Lake Travis ISD administrators, Lake Travis High School students, parents, business leaders and members of the greater Austin community.
