LTISD Schools Participate in National School Breakfast Week

Lake Travis ISD schools celebrated National School Breakfast Week March 6-10 to encourage families to take advantage of the healthy choices available with school breakfast. With the campaign theme “School Breakfast Challenge,” the entire school community was reminded that school breakfast provides a healthy, energizing start to the day for students.

A healthy breakfast at the start of the day is one way to ensure students have the nutrition to focus and energy to learn.

Students were encouraged to “Take the Challenge” by focusing on a different food group each day. Lake Travis cafés staff encouraged the balance of selecting an item from each the food groups during breakfast with “photo booth” style pictures complete with props and a red carpet. Students who ate breakfast all week in Lake Travis school cafés were recognized with a crown and celebrated on the last day of the challenge.

"Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for families to find time for a healthy breakfast," said Traci Miller, RDN, LTISD Director of Food and Nutrition Services.  "However, US Department of Agriculture data shows that more students are starting their day with a nutritious breakfast in their school cafés.  Although lunch is LTISD’s busiest meal service, around 500 breakfast meals are served each day district wide."
